Maxwell
Park Place located at 993 Maxwell Street, Sarnia is a 78,000 square foot
multi-residential seniors housing apartment built in 2010/2011. This
affordable housing project for the County of Lambton was undertaken by
David Gilchrist Architect (predecessor to BGAI), Ruth Burkhart from BGAI worked
as an Intern Architect on this project.
This
57 unit apartment building is four storeys on a sloping site. It provides
accessible apartments, seniors affordable apartments, a community room,
elevators, laundry facilities, offices for an accessibility department, a
facilities office, lounge spaces and a mail room. In addition to the
accessible design, this building exceeded the sustainable and energy code
requirements of its day. Building envelope, heat recovery systems and
solar thermal for domestic water preheat were strategies to improve the energy
consumption of this building.
