Phase Three of Imperial Theatre renovation completed
NOVEMBER 2021
The third and final phase of construction of BGAI’s design for Imperial Theatre’s washroom and lobby renovations has been completed. This phase included the relocation and updating of the men’s first floor washrooms and adjoining service spaces.

LKDSB Great Lakes Secondary School’s The Den Fit-out
JANUARY 2021
BGAI is proud to have completed the fit-out of Great Lakes Secondary School’s “The Den”. This space was designed to create a supportive environment for the FNMI students attending GLSS. BGAI assisted in the fit-out of the millwork, furnishings, and custom flooring design to reflect the Medicine Wheel.

BGAI hires new Senior CAD Technician

As of December 2020, BGAI is excited to welcome Jeff Currie to the BGAI team as our new Senior CAD Technician. Jeff is bringing over 40 years of experience in the field from working at various firms within Southwestern Ontario.

Phase Two of Imperial Theatre renovation completed
NOVEMBER 2020
BGAI provided architectural services for the Imperial Theatre to improve accessibility and patron amenities to their first-floor washrooms, box office, Capitol Bar and entry spaces at this 600-seat performing arts facility. Architectural design is completed, and two of three phases of construction have been completed to date.

BGAI volunteers to assist with local design challenge
JUNE 2020
In the fall of 2019, Burkhart Gilchrist Architects Inc. was asked to be a part of the High School Engineering Design Challenge to redesign the pavilion and bandstand area in Canatara Park. BGAI volunteered to provide modelled renders of the students’ projects to help them visualize their design. The students finished their projects and the winners were announced this month.

Errol Russel Park has been completed
JULY 2019
BGAI is happy to announce that Errol Russel Park’s baseball diamond, located in Sarnia ON, has been completed. Burkhart Gilchrist Architects Inc. has worked with the City of Sarnia and the Sarnia Braves to upgrade the park with a new grandstand complete with accessible seating and washrooms and a small concession area, as well as new netting, poles and a backstop.

BGAI welcomes Brazilian exchange architect

In February 2019, Burkhart Gilchrist Architects Inc. is happy to welcome Brazilian architect, Karen Tiemii, to the BGAI team for three months. BGAI worked with the Sarnia Rotary Club to coordinate Karen’s time in Canada to ensure that her transition and overall experience was as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Karen will be exploring the world of Canadian architecture by assisting BGAI on various projects.

Ruth Burkhart has decided to continue the architecture firm of David Gilchrist Architect, after the passing of her mentor David Gilchrist. Ruth will be moving forward with Burkhart Gilchrist Architects Inc and continue to lead her team to design projects that will continuously create a positive relationship with their community.

DGA regrets to announce the passing of David William Gilchrist.
In 1981 David returned to his hometown and founded David Gilchrist Architect – a sole proprietor Architectural firm that would serve the Sarnia-Lambton community for the next 36 years. During this time, his business transformed with the changing requirements of the design and construction industry. The architectural projects that David led through his firm have had a broad and deep impact on the built environment of the Sarnia-Lambton community.
Outside of work, David’s family was paramount. He loved to share the achievements of his five children and extended family with colleagues and friends. David will be missed by all who knew him and by those who had the honour of working with him.

CANstruction at the end of a rainbow
MARCH 2015
David Gilchrist Architect teamed up with Steeves and Rosema to participate in the Inn of the Good Shephard’s CANstruction to create a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Through their hard work, DGA won Best Use of Labels and Structural Ingenuity.

A very hungry CANstruction
MARCH 2013 On March 2-3, 2013 CANstruction returned to Lambton-County. David Gilchrist Architect teamed up with Collins-Ferrera Engineering and T.W. Gray engineering to participate along with 17 other teams to build a can structure through donations provided to the Inn of the Good Shepherd. Our team utilized cans to recreate the very hungry caterpillar. We were honoured to have been awarded three awards for our work, including Best Use of Labels, Structural Ingenuity and Judge’s Favourite. DGA constructed a replica of the Inn of the Good Shephard which was awarded two awards, Best Use of Labels and Structural Ingenuity, for their hard work.
